| Right now I am sitting in Travel Writing learning about blogging for money. I may try it someday, but not on xanga.

| Our first real bit of fun came when we tried to enter a bookstore. I can't remember the name, but it's north of that Unicorn place I mentioned earlier. "Sorry for the Inconvenience use door #blahblahblah" was posted on the first door. So we walked over to the next door and went in. We all looked around feeling a little incredulous. To left were several battered and dusty vending machines. "I wonder how they expect to money off of these machines. They've hardly got any snacks left." I poked at some buttons.
"I don't think they do. They're not turned on." Jake said, more observant than I as always. I looked around some more. No books to be found. Besides the vending machines there were some waterstains on the wall and a funhousian staircase leading up to the second floor. If I had been on my own, I probably would have hesitated and just left, but since Jake and Jessica were with me I led the way up. The air stunk of cigarettes, and I still didn't see any books. On the wall was posted yet another sign that said "Parking allowed overnight on Franklin street except for, NIGHTS" and then it had a bunch of crap about fines.
"I think this is a just a bunch of apartments," one of us said. We took some pictures of the funny sign, and then made our way back down the warped and slanty stairs. It turned out the actual bookstore entrance was another door over. It was a neat and eclectic place. Don't go there if you're allergic to cats though. The rest of our walk included three second-hand shops(I think we saw a total of at least five). Sadly, we didn't find any treasures at Hidden Treasure unless you count the sight of a local townie guy wearing a fuzzy orange cowboy hat. We also learned that the Kirksville courthouse has a nuclear bomb shelter which is a good thing since I think a town near here has or used to have a nuclear missile base.
All in all, it was a good walk. I'm glad I know where the nuclear shelter is too because of this http://technocrat.net/d/2008/1/28/35115actually this was the only link about anti-radiation pills I could find. Sorry it's not that scary.

I'm back! This year I'm finally taking the writing
classes that were supposed to be the point of my college education. For
travel writing today we were supposed to try out the blog format. I'm not
sure what that exactly entails, but here is a blog about my weekend.
Enjoy because I probably won't post another blog for at least three months.
This last weekend was completely unproductive. I have to admit fun
weekends like this one make me regret that my college career at Truman is so
quickly coming to an end. Friday, Jessica, a friend of Jake's, came to
visit Truman and Kirksville for the weekend. She quickly got to
experience the sights, sounds, and smells of...just one room--Jake's
room. At first, most of her time
was spent smelling the smells that only five guys cramped in a room can create
as they blow the head off of *&$@*** zombie after zombie. The next
day I was feeling kind of guilty about all the violent video game images we'd
forced Jessica to sit through, and I think Jake was as well.
"Hey, Jessica and I are going to go on a tour of Kirksville this afternoon. Do you wanna
come?" Jake asked me.
I wasn't too excited at his offer. I
mean it's Kirksville and I've lived in this town for almost four years
now. What could I possibly discover new downtown? (I assumed that's where
Jake was going. Going anywhere else would have involved driving his
hybrid, and losing his parking spot.) I decided to go anyway.
The first block we offered Jessica timely information about the nearby
businesses. “Actually dirty things is a
laundryshop. Yeah, I know. I used to think it was a porn store, too.”
“Oh look, it’s Kum and Go.
It has got quite a few nicknames” and then Jessica got to learn the
nicknames.
As we walked along Franklin
street heading downtown, I felt increasingly
old. "Over there used to the closest bank Midwest ATM. Now
they are all fifteen minutes away. See that stupid overpriced sushi
place, it used to be Crumbles and Cream. They were so good. They used to be the only place in town to buy
Jones Soda. I would have definitely stopped and bought something from
there if they were still open." I felt old thinking about what I had
just complained about. If old is a state of mind it comes from saying
"used to." “Hey, look” I
said, “it’s that Unicorn bookstore…they’re closed now, too.”
…More to come. Sorry
for the drear tone. I was really tired
when I tried to write this first part during class.

| Just thought I'd put the truth out there.

| So I'm getting tired of being sick. Twice now I've had moments where I thought, "Hey I'm feeling better now. I must be over the hill." Then I promptly get punched in the stomach or intestines again. I started feeling sick Tuesday with stomach pain, but I didn't throw up till Thursday. Then Diarrhea Friday followed by throwing up again this morning. I hardly feel like eating anything even though I've been forcing myself to. I don't know anybody who is sick with the same symptoms as me, so I'm wondering if it's food poisoning from some pot pie I ate. I thought the pot-pie would be okay because I bought it at Walmart long after the recall. Bleahhh!!! :)-this emoticon will hopefully counterbalance the negativity of this post.
